The Palomar Testbed Interferometer

چکیده
The Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI) is a long-baseline infrared interferometer located at Palomar Observatory, California. It was built as a testbed for interferometric techniques applicable to the Keck Interferometer. First fringes were obtained in July 1995. PTI implements a dual-star architecture, tracking two stars simultaneously for phase referencing and narrow-angle astrometry. The three fixed 40-cm apertures can be combined pair-wise to provide baselines to 110 m. The interferometer actively tracks the white-light fringe using an array detector at 2.2 μm and active delay lines with a range of ±38 m. Laser metrology of the delay lines allows for servo control, and laser metrology of the complete optical path enables narrow-angle astrometric measurements. The instrument is highly automated, using a multiprocessing computer system for instrument control and sequencing.

Differential Astrometry of Sub-arcsecond Scale Binaries at the Palomar Testbed Interferometer
We have used the Palomar Testbed Interferometer to perform very high precision differential astrometry on the 0.25 arcsecond separation binary star HD 171779. In 70 minutes of observation we achieve a measurement uncertainty of ≈ 9 micro-arcseconds in one axis, consistent with theoretical expectations. Nightto-night repeatability over four nights is at the level of 16 micro-arcseconds. This met...
متن کاملThe visual orbits of the spectroscopic binaries HD 6118 and HD 27483 from the Palomar Testbed Interferometer
We present optical interferometric observations of two double-lined spectroscopic binaries, HD 6118 and HD 27483, taken with the Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI) in the K band. HD 6118 is one of the most eccentric spectroscopic binaries and HD 27483 a spectroscopic binary in the Hyades open cluster. The data collected with PTI in 2002-2003 allow us to determine astrometric orbits and when c...
متن کاملPalomar Testbed Interferometer Observations of Young Stellar Objects
We present observations of a sample of Herbig AeBe stars, as well as the FU Orionis object V1057 Cygni. Our K-band (2.2μm) observations from the Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI) used baselines of 110m and 85m, resulting in fringe spacings of ∼ 4mas and 5mas, respectively. Fringes were obtained for the first time on V1057 Cygni as well as V594 Cas. Additional measurements were made of MWC147...
متن کاملFringe visibility estimators for the Palomar Testbed Interferometer
Visibility estimators and their performance are presented for use with the Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI). One operational mode of PTI is single-baseline visibility measurement using pathlength modulation with synchronous readout by a NICMOS-3 infrared array. Visibility is estimated from the fringe quadratures, either incoherently, or using source phase referencing to provide a longer coh...
متن کاملASEPS-O Testbed Interferometer
The ASEPS-O Testbed Interferometer is a long-baseline infrared interferometer optimized for high-accuracy narrow-angle astrometry. It is being constructed by JPL for NASA as a testbed for the future Keck Interferometer to demonstrate the technology for the astrometric detection of exoplanets from the ground. Recent theoretical and experimental work has shown that extremely high accuracy narrow-...
